Philippe Poutou took his first steps in the film industry! After nearly three years of unemployment – well occupied by the presidential campaign -, the leader of the New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA) has been hired on a permanent contract as “in charge of non-media promotion” of films from Urban distribution international. A profession far from the automotive industry, in which the 55-year-old man worked for 20 years. “But with my trade union and political activities, I was completely grilled (in this sector)”, he assured the Parisian.
Urban distribution is an independent structure founded in 2004 by Frédéric Corvez and who made his DNA the fact of “not resorting to banks”, in the words of its founder. He explains on his website: “We present international art house films by promising young filmmakers and renowned directors whose films are distinguished by innovation and originality”.
A philosophy that seduced Philippe Poutou: “I find myself completely in the values defended by their films: anti-capitalism, anti-racism, feminism and ecology.“, he declared. The trade unionist has already collaborated with Urban distribution, since they have produced together, with Jamila Jendari and Nicolas Beirnaert, “We are left with anger“, a documentary on the union struggle of Ford workers in Blanquefortwhich will be released on September 30.
Philippe Poutou keeps his elected missions
The unsuccessful candidate for the presidential election has been responsible, since taking up his half-time post on September 1, toorganize previews and debates “so that the films are released in the best conditions”. And he assured to want fight “to make small films exist with small means”.
Philippe Poutou remains however a municipal councilor of Bordeaux and Metropolitan Councilor of Bordeaux Métropole and will continue to carry out spokesperson missions within the NPA.
