The return of Brendan Fraser in obese of 270 kilos moved internet users (10 tweets)

This is called a thunderous return. Actor Brendan Fraser (the trilogy The Mummy) just received a standing ovation for his role as a 600-pound, reclusive, obese man trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter. The proof in video.

Fraser and his 270 kilos: an acclaimed performance

Certainly less prestigious than the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival is nonetheless one of the high places of the movie theater. From August 31 to September 10, the festival rewards the best films of the moment, in particular through its prestigious Golden Lion, the equivalent of the Palme d’Or.

While the festival is in full swing, a very moving scene took place yesterday. During the screening of The Whale by Darren Aronofsky, the public rose to make a true standing ovation to actor Brendan Fraserwhich interprets a 270 kg obese man on the threshold of his life.

A path strewn with pitfalls

As a reminder, Brendan Fraser made a name for himself thanks to the role of Rick O’Connell in The Mummy (1999) and its sequels, The Mummy Returns (2002) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. But since the success of this trilogy, the actor has been more discreet on the professional level. On the personal side, Brendan Fraser said through a very touching testimony that he had suffered sexual assault from Philip Berk, former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Facts that would have taken place in 2003, and which traumatized himleading him to remain silent for many years, fearing for his career.

Added to this is crippling pain, particularly linked to his stunts during the filming of the trilogy The Mummyimposing long periods of convalescence on him and keeping him away from the studios for nearly seven years.

The canvas reacts

It is therefore an understatement to say that this return to grace was deserved. Praised for his performance which some believe may open the door for him to win the Best Actor Oscar, Brendan Fraser sketched a few tears at the time of the ovation. A very moving scene that will remain in the annals of the festival. The video was widely shared, and led to many reactions on the networks, in particular of certain personalities, like the actor Dwayne Johnson. More broadly, it was Fraser’s acting that received acclaim.
