Arriving in Australia a week ago, Wout van Aert is continuing his preparation there for Sunday’s meeting. After two big outings, 150 kilometers on Monday, then 220 the next day, the Antwerp resident was content with lighter training on Wednesday. With Jasper Stuyven and Stan Dewulf, he traveled 42 km along the ocean but ventured on the heights. “Gorgeous”, he commented on his Strava account.
Nothing to report, one could say about the day of the world n°2, if there had not been the expected confirmation of the extension of two additional years and, let’s be sure, the revaluation of the contract which linked to Jumbo-Visma. The Belgian will evolve in the Dutch formation until the end of 2026, at least.
“I feel very good in this team.communicated Wout van Aert. The proof was given that I could obtain my best level there. Thanks to the supervision in particular. I was surprised by the proposal (Editor’s note: he was under contract until the end of 2024), but it is a nice recognition. We quickly understood that we wanted to continue together. For four years, I have seen that we are progressing. One of the team’s slogans is ‘do better every day’ and these are not empty words. We always opt for the best, we are constantly improving and I am not afraid to stay four more years. It also gives me enormous peace of mind for the future.”
At the end of 2026, the Campinois will be 32 years old and he will therefore spend the best years of his career with Jumbo-Visma.
“I still have many goalshe said. Sometimes I hear that I don’t get enough freedom in the team, but I think on the contrary that I have received much more thanks to the progress I have been able to make here. In another team, I might be the only leader on a big lap, but I wouldn’t have the same physical abilities. Thanks to Jumbo-Visma, I have reached my best level and I have the strongest teammates. I’m glad I found my home here.“
